SPORTS CLUB FOUNDED

Physical Educator, Lane Beatty created the Sports CLUB concept in Naples, Florida in 1999. Realizing the need for an improved children’s summer camp for working parents, Lane came up with the idea of allowing children the choice to choose from a number of activities throughout the day, based on 45-minute rotations. The idea was to offer children an opportunity to play and learn the rules to multiple sports and participate in fun, neighborhood games like he had played, growing up as a child in a small town in Northern Michigan. After building a successful Summer Sports Camp at Vineyards Elementary School, parents insisted that they wanted the same choices during their after-school program. Hence, Sports Camp, Inc., a non-profit organization 501 (c)(3) was formed and the after-school program (Sports CLUB) began in 1999 at two sites with a small group of students. The name Sports CLUB stands for Children Learning Ultimate Balance between academics, the arts and athletics. The program combines homework help, arts and crafts and a wide variety of physical activities daily from 2:45-6:30 p.m. The program has flourished to include many Sports CLUB locations throughout Collier County providing enrichment activities for over 1000 students weekly.

FAMILIES SERVED

Sports CLUB provides services for over 1000 families weekly in its after-school programs regardless of race, ethnicity or gender. Approximately 32 percent of all families served are economically needy and are receiving financial aid through the Early Learning Coalition or Sports CLUB Scholarship Fund. While we reach out to serve all of our community, many of the after-school programs serviced by Sports CLUB are in the North Naples area where small pockets of deprived students lose the opportunity for extra assistance due to the school they attend. Sports CLUB is dedicated to serving all children including these groups of needy families. Sports CLUB offers both financial assistance and family support in extra-curricular enrichment activities such as youth sports leagues, dance and gymnastics in addition to their after school programs. These activities offer opportunities to children in the evenings and on the weekends.
